Ivory Crockett (born August 24, 1948) is a former sprinter who, for a time, held the distinction of being "the world's fastest man" at his distance. Crockett, a track star from Webster Groves in St. Louis County, Missouri, ran college sprints for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. In 1974, Crockett broke the world record for the 100-yard dash by being timed at just nine seconds flat. This was timed manually. The Los Angeles Times characterized the event with the headline "Immortality in 9 Seconds Flat".
